24 Aug A new finger tracking wristband
Researchers from Cornell University and the University of Wisconsin have invented a new finger tracking wristband that could be used for sing language translation, virtual reality, as well as identifying medical conditions, such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s. It can also identify when the user is writing, drinking, or picking up his phone.
The bracelet, called Fingertrak, can sense and translate 20 different finger joint positions using low-resolution thermal cameras, which are half the size of an American quarter. “It’s the first system to reconstruct your full hand posture based on the contours of the wrist,” said Cheng Zhang, assistant professor of information science and director of Cornell’s new SciFi Lab.
